We provide free childcare and are an Ofsted regulated early years setting (link to our latest Ofsted report). We follow the Early years Foundation Stage curriculum and are open for 3 mornings a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10 am - 1 pm).
The playroom is staffed by the Playroom Coordinator, Supervisor and Early years practitioners plus a team of volunteers.
The Playroom is open for drop-in service. The playroom exists primarily for the use of children aged 1-5 of unemployed/homeless families and families in crisis, and is registered for children up to the age of 8. Our 3 main priorities for booked playroom places are for people volunteering, people attending ESOL and other classes. Parents must remain in the building. Each child will need a registration card filled in for them before they come to a playroom session, and a settling in process that may take up to 2-4 weeks.
We are a child focused and led setting with the emphasis on learning through play. We provide balanced indoor & outdoor play & activities. We learn and play outside. Play is often messy but fun. We have a growing area, a mud kitchen and play with natural resources. We can provide aprons and waterproofs, children will get messy and need to be dressed in clothes that its ok to get dirty. We are playing outside, children will need to be dressed in weather appropriate clothes.
Volunteers are key to the development and the running of the playroom. Volunteers take part in the day-to–day running of the playroom and work with children. Volunteers are supported with supervision and training opportunities, travelling expenses, free lunch and entitlement to a reference.
